Kindness to K9s

Aka Doggy Bags

They served at the Twin Towers when terrorism hit home
They continue to serve overseas in the war against terrorism
They will gladly give their life to save anothers
They are the United States Military K-9 Unit
& They love to get mail just as much as the next troop in uniform!

Please show your appreciation to these fine friends? Please send a care package to a 4-legged troop overseas. Ideas include:

  • Dog biscuits (regular and dental)
  • Kong brand chew toys of various sizes (they are usually reddish in color and are for power chewers)
  • Rope toys or new tennis balls
  • Items to keep dogs clean
  • Dog boots for Large Dogs, Shepherds and Malinois

Of course, their 2-legged handlers appreciate receiving mail, too! Their first concern is their dogs. If you do happen to have some room left in the box, here are some Ideas for the handlers:

  • Razors, deodorant, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, lip balm, any kind of pre-moistened hand or body wipes, no-water needed hand cleaner, Puffs Plus, moisturizing eye drops, saline nasal spray, good hand cream
  • Instant foods that need only water (Ragu Express, Kraft Easy Mac, and flavored oatmeal)
  • Instant flavored coffees, creamers, hot cocoas, teas
  • Snacks that can take the tough journey overseas (Blow Pops, Twizlers, beef jerky, granola bars, tuna kits, gum, mints, M&Ms, marshmallows). Note: please reference packing tips on our care package page
  • Seasonings in plastic containers such as garlic powder, SeasonAll, Italian seasonings, hot sauce, dried onion
  • Cards, letters, well wishes, pictures drawn by children, clean cartoons and joke books
  • Games, decks of cards (like UNO), new/used magazines or paperbacks, disposable cameras with flash, AA & D batteries, blank cards, pens
  •
Trial sizes, samples and hotel freebies are welcomed! NO combustibles, pressurized items, expensive items. No pornographic or religious items or symbols, as they are illegal in many other countries and will be confiscated. Please let us know if you know of anyone/company who would like to donate a laptop directly to an overseas unit.

    Mailing Instructions:

    • Put any item that could leak or melt or which is scented in a leak-proof zip-sealed bag!
    • If you would like a reply, be sure to enclose a letter saying so.
    • Use a sturdy corrugated, brown Kraft box, as free of other markings as possible.
    • If necessary, distribute the weight better by taping some items to the sides.
    • Include extra mailing labels inside, just in case the box breaks.
    • Fill all extra space with foam peanuts, bubble wrap, popcorn
    • Double tape all seams with strong packing or shipping tape. Make sure you have a strip going around all sides.
    • Fill out a Customs Declaration and Dispatch Note at the post office. Briefly list the contents & underestimate the value to discourage thieving. In the upper left corner write Operation Military Pride with your complete return address so they know its safe to open (or it might get tossed)! In the bottom left corner write a re-direct address of another troop or write, If the person to whom this box is addressed has been redeployed, please keep the box and share it with your unit.
    • The postage cost will be at the regular postage rate (or priority mail rate if desired and going to an APO).
